The PM2110C Shuttle Car products of PHILLIPS MACHINE SERVICE, INC., Beckley, West Virginia, USA have now been successfully introduced to the Chinese market. In Shanxi Province the SIHE MINE of the JINCHENG COAL MINING GROUP, LTD and the DANING MINE of the SHANXI ASIAN AMERICAN DANING ENERGY COMPANY, LTD are utilizing these newly developed, high capacity shuttle cars for production and longwall development.
In order to support these cars and assist with the maintenance and repair of other mining equipment of both foreign and domestic manufacture, PHILLIPS has joined with the JINCHENG COAL MINING GROUP to form JINCHENG-PHILLIPS MACHINE SERVICE CO. LTD. The machine shop and repair facility is currently under construction within the SIHE MINE complex. It is being set up to provide services to any and all Chinese mines, not just those of the JINCHENG COAL MINING GROUP. PHILLIPS is represented in China by HUALINYUAN TRADING COMPANY of Beijing.
New manufacture and rebuilding of cutter drums for longwall shearers and continuous miners are now well underway at the DATONG-PHILLIPS MINING EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING COMPANY LIMITED joint venture in Datong, Shanxi Province, China. This joint venture between the DATONG COAL MINING GROUP LTD. and PHILLIPS MACHINE SERVICE, INC. was set in motion in late 2001.
Building on the successful introduction of the cable-free FREEDOM CAR in the U.S., PHILLIPS SOUTH AFRICA PTY LTD has joined forces with BIZAFRICA (PTY) LTD of Middleburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa to manufacture and market the FC25, a large battery powered FREEDOM CAR, capable of transporting 25 metric tonnes. The first car will soon begin in-mine trials. Freed from the problems inherent with trailing cable operation and freed from the need to have to turn around during the haulage cycle, the FC25 is expected to make a significant impact on underground haulage in South Africa.
This will also mark the introduction of PHILLIPS state-of-the-art electronic traction control in South Africa and follow-up the successful introduction of similar controls in Australia while working in conjunction with WARATAH ENGINEERING PTY LTD of Cardiff, NSW, Australia.
Continuous miners, rebuilt and extensively modified by PHILLIPS, have been supplied as major components in unique highwall mining systems, designed and manufactured by RAHCO INTERNATIONAL, INC. of Spokane, Washington USA. These highwall mining systems are scheduled for late 2003 startup in Indonesia.
The very successful performance of continuous miners rebuilt and equipped by PHILLIPS with the 400 kW PHILLIPS Cutterhead has also caught the attention of the international mining community and opportunities are being explored.
PHILLIPS TECHNOLOGIES DIVISION, working with OPTICAL CABLE CORPORATION of Roanoke, Virginia, USA and AMERCABLE DIVISION OF ASSOCIATED MATERIALS INCORPORATED of Houston, Texas, USA, has developed unique power, communication, and video cables with integrated fiber optics, plus the necessary connectors and couplings--complete systems. Component approvals from the U.S. MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (MSHA) have either been received or are in process. These products are being applied by both mining companies and original equipment manufacturers.
